Mill Villages: Weaving the Past with the Future
The Light Factory is partnering with the Charlotte Symphony, Kinetic Works, The Levine Museum of the New South and Children’s Theater of Charlotte to undergo a program at Piedmont Middle School relating students to the history of Mill Villages. Students will explore various artistic mediums while discovering the history of local and regional Mill Village history. Guest artists from each organization will work with students to create group and individual pieces responding to Mill Villages from their personal perspective. Visual Art Students will work with Jen Crickenberger from The Light Factory to produce photographic works representing their unique perspective on mill villages. The final performance is combine all of the different art forms in one animated production.

My Life in Charlotte
Students at Hawthorne High School explored their personal perspectives on what it means to be a teenager living in Charlotte. Teaching Artist, John Lemmon, taught students the art of stop motion animation. Their final animations were publicly screened at Charlotte’s First Night celebration on New Year's Eve, sponsored by Charlotte Center City Partners who funded this project.

Changing Places
This program will teach students how to express their ideas and feelings relating to the major themes of the Changing Places exhibition at the Levine Museum of the New South. Students are producing still frame animations, cyanotype prints, and digital photographs that communicate their concepts. The final performance will be in April.
This program is a collaboration between the Charlotte Symphony, Kinetic Works, Museum of New South, and The Light Factory, and involves art students in sixth through eighth grade at Piedmont Open Middle School.
